OPTIMIzATION APPROACH

OF OUR WATER NEEDS
For several years now, Grand Massif Domaines Skiables has been working to gain a better understanding of its water requirements, with the aim of reducing consumption and managing this resource sustainably.

A water observatory was launched in 2022 with 4 levels of commitment:

  • Assessing quantitative challenges
  • Modeling the functioning of hydrosystems
  • Adapting to climate change
  • Regenerating water resources

In addition, a plan for water sobriety has been initiated to include all services using this resource.

OUR ACTIONS

Climatic study ClimSnow
Climsnow quantifies the reliability of snowmaking (natural snow, groomed snow, with or without artificial snow) at different timescales (up to 2050).

It provides snow-meteorological projections based on IPCC climate scenarios.

Objective: to help resorts define adaptation and diversification strategies for tourism, taking climate change into account.

Intelligent management of our networks to save water and energy
  • Instantaneous leak detection: using connected tools, we identify and correct anomalies in real time, limiting water losses.
  • Remote control of production: automatic adjustment according to cooling hours to optimize energy consumption and guarantee performance.

All thanks to TechnoAlpin’s Liberty tool.

Objective: reduce waste, improve responsiveness and reinforce our environmental commitment.

Deployment of SnowSat and CGX tools

They measure the snow depth under the snow groomers’ tracks in real time, so that only the snow needed is produced and consumption is reduced.

Working on the layout of snow guns
Abandonment of snow networks below 1600 m altitude: in line with the recommendations of the Imp’Act and Climsnow studies, we are abandoning artificial snowmaking in areas with low natural snow cover. The Resilience Plan incorporates this strategic choice and proposes re-use solutions to optimize existing infrastructures.

Plastic reduction
We have installed water fountains on our premises for staff use, and put an end to the use of plastic bottles unless there is no drinking water nearby. Reusable water bottles have been distributed to all employees to encourage sustainable practices.

Pooling of hill reservoirs
We optimize the use of our reservoirs by dedicating them to several needs: drinking water, snow production and pastoralism. This approach fosters sustainable resource management and the cohabitation of local uses.

Reduced water consumption
Installation of flow reducers on taps in key areas (canteen, changing rooms, non-bagged rooms) to limit waste and optimize resource use.
