How to significantly improve safety on the slopes

Safety on alpine ski slopes is ensured in every Grand Massif resort(Flaine, Morillon, Samoëns and Sixt) by the GMDS piste service, made up of specially trained and qualified personnel: first-aid attendants, grooming machine operators, snow and weather observers, avalanche dog handlers and piste control centre operators.

But safety is everyone’s business!

To ensure that your stay goes smoothly and without a hitch, we’ve reworked our 10 rules of the road.

RESPECT

On the slopes, you’re never alone: respect and look out for others.

VIGILANCE

Weather conditions, snow conditions, density of riders: stay alert and adapt intelligently.

TRAJECTOIRE

The golden rule: priority to the rider below you on the track.

OVERRIDE

Overtake to the right or left, but plan ahead.

TRACK CROSSINGS AND DEPARTURES

At a crossroads, double your attention and look everywhere. At the start of a trail, it’s the same thing!

BREAK

Breaks are OK, but not just anywhere: stay visible. Did you fall? Clear the runway as much as possible.

PEDESTRIANS ON THE TRACK

Do you have to walk up or down a slope? Use the edges of the slope, so as not to get in the way.

INFORMATION

Keep up to date with the weather, piste maintenance, signs and markings, and snow conditions.

HELPING OTHERS

Have you seen or caused an accident? Get involved: alert emergency services and stay with the people involved.

ENTRAIDE

Witness or responsible for an accident? Identify yourself to the first-aid team and work with them.
