THE CONTEXT AND WHAT’S AT STAKE
The transition of skiing is a complex and sensitive issue, especially in a context where climate change directly threatens the viability of winter sports resorts. Several studies highlight tensions between different levels of approach and the difficulty in imagining viable solutions for the future. The debate seems to be structured around two conflicting visions:
– Advantages: territorial expertise, responsiveness, historical roots.
– Limitations: dependence on the ‘all-ski’ model, innovation difficulties, political inertia.
– Advantages: systemic vision, openness to diversification (four seasons, ecotourism, culture, agriculture, etc.), integration of climate challenges.
– Limitations: coordination complexity, calling into question current economic and social equilibria.
Voici quelques leviers :
Here are a few ways of doing this:
– Involving elected officials, operators, residents, associations, scientists, tourists.
– Creating spaces for consultation (workshops, forums, third-party sites)
To this end, Grand Massif Domaines Skiables is organising a Resilience Tour this autumn 2025 to present the “Resilience Plan” and, above all, to initiate a debate on the future of our mountain territory.

2.Drawing up prospective scenarios:
– Imagining alternative futures: efficient consumption, economic diversification, climate adaptation.
– Using tools such as climate frescoes, meaningful games, interactive mapping.
3. Experimenting local innovations:
– Support pilot projects outside the skiing model ( alternative modes of transport, cultural tourism, mountain agriculture).
– Make the most of feedback and good examples.
4. Training and raising awareness:
– Training elected officials and local professionals on climate challenges and the need for transition.
– Raising awareness among young people and visitors of the fragility of mountain environments.
Through this vision, Grand Massif Domaines Skiables is reinforcing its mission to provide access to a formidable mountain terrain, in complete safety, throughout the year, and with respect for the environment. Watch the film on the 2050 vision for the Grand Massif territory.
