Sairon gets a makeover

After 36 seasons of good and loyal service, the Sairon chairlift, which starts in the resort of Morillon les Esserts, is getting a new lease of life.

Its replacement is due to come into service for the 2022-2023 winter season with a faster, more comfortable and quieter 6-seater detachable chairlift.

A few statistics to consider in comparison with the old lift:

  • Journey time: 9 mins v 14 mins
  • Number of passengers per seat: 6 people v 4 people
  • Speed: up to 6m/s v 5m/s

A DEVELOPMENT PROJECT MINDFUL OF ITS ENVIRONMENT!

To limit the impact on the landscape, the route of the new lift has been designed to minimise the need to clear new areas of forest. Added to which, 6 pylons have been removed from the route.
Construction of a new ski lift now focuses on better management of materials, waste and energy:
- parts are reused on other systems,
- scrap metal is recycled,
- oil and electricity consumption is reduced thanks to a new generation engine (Direct Drive).
The protection of fauna and flora remains a priority for Grand Massif Domaines Skiables, in particular with the preservation of protected areas and wetlands; the installation of bird deterrents; and the fitting of bird beacons.

THE MAIN STAGES ON THE PROJECT

Work started at the end of the winter season with the dismantling of the existing lift. The new chairlift will carry its first passengers on the opening day of the ski area: Saturday 17th December 2022!

A PROJECT RUN BY LOCAL AND FRENCH COMPANIES!

Much of the work on this project is being carried out by Grand Massif teams and by local companies chosen for their expertise.
