Sairon gets a makeover

After 36 seasons of loyal service, the Sairon chairlift at the bottom of Morillon – Les Esserts resort is getting a makeover.

Its replacement is due to come into service for the 2022-2023 winter season with a 6-seater detachable chairlift, which will be quieter, faster and more comfortable.

A few interesting facts and figures by way of comparison with the old lift:

– Journey time: 9 mins v. 14 mins

– Number of passengers per seat: 6 people v. 4 people

– Speed: up to 6 m/s v. 5m/s.

A DEVELOPMENT PROJECT MINDFUL OF ITS ENVIRONMENT!

To limit the impact on the landscape, the trajectory of the new lift has been redesigned to minimise the need to clear new forestry areas. In addition, 6 pylons are being removed from the line.

Constructing a new lift now focuses on better management of materials, waste, and energy:
- Parts are re-used on other machines,
- scrap metal is recycled,
- oil and electricity consumption is reduced thanks to a new generation engine (Direct Drive).

The protection of flora and fauna remains a priority for the Grand Massif Domaines Skiables company, particularly through the preservation of protected areas and wetlands; the use of bird avoidance devices; and the installation of bird beacons.

THE KEY STAGES OF THE WORKSITE

Work started at the end of the winter season with the demolition of the existing lift. The new chairlift will carry its first passengers on the opening day of the ski area: Saturday 17th December 2022!

A PROJECT UNDERTAKEN BY BOTH LOCAL AND FRENCH COMPANIES!

Much of the work on this project is being carried out by Grand Massif teams and by local companies chosen for their expertise.
